- GM offers a 60-day money back guarantee—if your car is under 4,000 miles and current on your payments
- Government approved chairman Edward E. Whitacre Jr. puts GM’s future on the line
- Flashback: Edward E. Whitacre has no experience in the automotive industry
Business Logic:
GM is betting that this program will spark a buzz, lead people to investigate GM brands (Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, etc.), learn about the company and cars and get them to think positive of GM again. Critics say this 60-day money back guarantee is not enough to get consumers into the dealership, and that pricing is a better incentive. Furthermore, if people decide to use this program as a long-term rent-a-car solution, GM could face a huge loss. For this reason, the car must be under 4,000 miles if you return the car.

If I had the time, I would intentionally get a new Government Motors car so I could return it with 3900 miles on it just to do my part to help this failed socialist company faster down the path.
Who would bother with the guarantee when they could take a $500 incentive instead?
GM says you can take a $500 incentive offer instead of signing up for the 60 day guarantee program. I can’t imagine anyone going for the guarantee.

As a former automotive quality engineer ( laid off for over a year now) and having worked with the big six ( big 3 Plus Honda Toyota and Nissan) I can say that unless GM really changes how they buy parts and how they conduct their warranty they will fail. Parts are still bought on cost and kick backs and warranty program is just a bunch of paper pushers. No one is checking to see if
the supplier is changing the process to fix the defects. Suppliers just give more kick backs to get more business. Honda and others make you work for their business by fixing process problems and making better parts. Honda makes you fix your warranty or else you pay for it by deductions on new part orders. If you look at the new GM nothing is really new except all of the cars they are improrting from Aisa and Mexico. Check where your car is really made on the label insde the driver door. You may find out that your not driving a car made in the USA.
